Info zu Created From Filth And Dust

"I am Lilith Czar," begins the artist formerly known as Juliet Simms on her new album's "Poem Intro." The rock star's voice is calm - a bit too calm - before continuing with background and explaining how she was "created from filth and dust." With a heavy drum beat and absolute searing guitar, the word "dust" is screamed through her raspy, devilish vocals, as we're sent flying down the rabbit hole of reinvention.

Lilith Czar arrives with the force of an otherworldly thunder, arising in visceral rebirth from an untimely grave of surrender and sacrifice. Her voice is the sound of supernatural determination, summoned with a confessional vulnerability and unapologetic authenticity. The girl who was Juliet Simms – her dreams discouraged and dismissed, her identity confined and controlled – is no more. In her place stands Lilith Czar, a new vessel forged in unbridled willpower and unashamed desire. Her motivation is simple: if it’s truly “a man’s world”? She wants to be King.

Created from Filth and Dust, the debut album from Lilith Czar, is an evocative invitation into her bold new world. It’s aggressive music with warm accessibility; huge hooks with driving hard rock—the new larger-than-life icon channels the fierce combativeness of Fiona Apple and Stevie Nicks’ seductive witchery. Lilith Czar arms herself with sonic power, theatricality, and confidence. It’s a sound where the pulse of Nine Inch Nails, Halestorm’s songcraft, and the libertine spirit of David Bowie converge, all in service of a ritualistic ache for a more just and equitable world. Lilith Czar is more than music. Her songs – like “King,” “Bad Love,” and “100 Little Deaths” – are anthems. She sounds both larger than life and hauntingly intimate, baring all in the ballad “Diamonds to Dust” or unleashing hell with the banshee wail of “Feed My Chaos.” As much as Lilith Czar’s music is perfectly suited for modern rock radio, it’s simultaneously timeless. Thanks in no small part to Czar’s rich voice, Created from Filth and Dust wouldn’t sound out of place in any significant rock era.

“I know who I am now, completely,” the singer declares. “I’ve found my purpose, creating art to inspire others to stand up for what they believe, to fight for their dreams, and to never give up.”

She summarizes the Lilith Czar origin story like this: “When you find yourself beaten down by the world, in those times you can either let it destroy you or let it create you.” Created from filth and dust, destined to be King… Lilith Czar.

Lilith Czar

Lilith Czar
is the dark and empowering hard rock alter ego of Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Juliet Simms, who also fronts the emo-punk outfit Automatic Loveletter and found solo success as a contestant on the 2012 season of the NBC reality TV talent competition The Voice. Adopting the Lilith Czar moniker in 2020, Simms released the explosive single "King," in 2021, which appeared on her Sumerian Records-issued debut album, Created from Filth and Dust.

A native of San Francisco, Simms had her first break in 2006 after several songs she recorded and uploaded to her social media page were licensed to MTV and featured on The Real World and Road Rules. Simms is also a member of the emo-punk/melodic rock outfit Automatic Loveletter, featuring her brother, bassist/producer Tommy Simms. The band recorded an EP and even appeared twice on the Vans Warped Tour, eventually releasing a full-length album, The Kids Will Take Their Monsters On, for the indie label Paper & Plastick in 2011.

In 2012, as a finalist on the NBC singing competition The Voice, Simms' recording of the Police's "Roxanne" topped the digital pop charts. Exiting the show as the runner-up, she inked a deal with Universal Records and released the single "Wild Child," but ultimately left the label due to concerns over not having creative control. Now operating independently, Simms released a pair of EPs, All or Nothing and From the Grave, in 2015 and 2016, respectively. 2016 also saw Simms marry Black Veil Brides frontman Andy Biersack.

In 2019, after struggling with personal issues, Simms signed to Sumerian Records and released the singles "Bad Love" and "100 Little Deaths." Shortly thereafter, she re-emerged as Lilith Czar, a name with roots in the Bible and Babylonian demonology. Embracing themes of determination, vulnerability, authenticity, and self-empowerment, she released the single "King" in 2021, which appeared on her debut full-length effort, Created from Filth and Dust, later that year.
