Info for Amniotic

Dwelling in a mysterious dreamtime realm where perceptive texts and incisive rhymes float within a translucent acoustic-electronic instrumental biosphere, AMNIOTIC will abstractly depict the nine months that slowly morph from the inception of life to the everyday miracle of new birth. Like an audio micro-photograph ... without the sentimentality.

A far cry from the dreaded dime-a-dozen singer-songwriter-as-emotionally-overwhelmed-parent record, AMNIOTIC will dispense with the narrative cliché of maternal hope, doubt, fear, joy, expectation, depression, and acceptance to document the inner workings of biological change, hormonal shifts, and psychological challenges with a language that is simultaneously scientific and vernacular ... set to music that movingly portrays both the age-old intra-uterine world and modern extra-bodily environments in contrast and correspondence.

Johanna Borchert, born 1983 in Berlin, is a pianist, singer, songwriter and composer currently residing in Copenhagen (since 2017). Her initiatives are praised as transcending genres and as being multilayered works, for which she received several awards, including but not limited to: the Danish Music Award and the New German Jazz Prize.

For her vocal debut in 2015 „FM Biography“, Johanna received the “Echo Jazz” as the best national singer. The follow-up album „Love or Emptiness“, which was released in November 2017, has received exceptional praise from the press: [...] „If the world were fair, David Lynch would have invited Johanna Borchert to reissue his series“ Twin Peaks „To play one of her imaginative songs on the stage of his ‚Roadhouse‘.“ [...] - Jazzpodium 2017 Johanna has been a regular guest on renowned European and international concert stages and festivals. At the heart of her artistic expression is her open and playful approach to music.

Johanna Borchert
is a singer, pianist and composer whose roots lie in jazz. In October 2014, the charismatic artist released her first record ›FM Biography‹, which is situated between pop and avant-garde. She recorded it together with musicians such as Fred Frith, Julian Sartorius and Shahzad Ismaily. Borchert’s soggy, mystical, sometimes humorous songs stand on the one hand in the tradition of passionate lateral thinkers like Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson and Björk, on the other hand the Berliner expands the pop and singer-songwriter horizon by improvisations and individual sounds. Johanna Borchert complements unusual timbres with pointed electronic effects. Poetic depth and dense atmosphere, sometimes supported by light and image projections on the grand piano lid, make Johanna Borchert’s concerts a special experience. In May 2015 the artist receives the Echo Jazz 2015 for ›FM Biography‹.
