Mit seinem neuen Album "Christmas" gestaltet Trompeter Till Brönner im Trio mit Pianist Frank Chastenier und Bassist Christian von Kaphengst ein puristisches Album voll kammermusikalischer Intensität und erfrischender Weite. Songs aus unterschiedlichen Jahrzenten und Genres wie "Jesus to Child", "Ich steh an deiner Krippe hier" oder "Jingle Bells" verbinden sie zu einem innigen Hörerlebnis.

Relevante Kunst ist immer auch ein Spiegel ihrer Zeit und der Umstände, unter denen sie entsteht. Auf "Christmas" gelingt Till Brönner eine einmalige Melange aus Aktualität und Zeitlosigkeit. "Die vergangenen Monate haben uns allen vor Augen geführt", erklärt Brönner, "was wirklich wichtig ist im Leben. Diese Erkenntnis wollten wir auch innerhalb der Musik umsetzen. So langsam kehrt das Leben zu einer gewissen Normalität zurück, in der kleine Feiern im engsten Kreis endlich wieder möglich sind. Wir haben uns nach diesem besonderen Jahr ganz bewusst gegen ein Album mit bombastisch-überladenen Coverversionen für rauschende Feste entschieden, sondern versuchen stattdessen mit einem kleinen Ensemble eine besondere, eine geradezu intime weihnachtliche Stimmung zu erzeugen."

Auf "Christmas" schlägt Till Brönners einen stilistischen Bogen von deutschen Weihnachtsklassikern wie "Ich steh an deiner Krippen hier" über nachdenkliche Popmomente wie dem berührenden Cover von George Michaels "Jesus To A Child" bis zu elegant-loungigen Late-Night-Remakes amerikanischer Evergreens wie "Jingle Bells" oder "Christmas Time Is Here". Letzterem verleiht niemand Geringerer als Max Mutzke mit seinen souligen Vocals einen ganz besonderen melancholischen Touch. "Mitte der 1960er-Jahre befand sich der Vietnamkrieg in vollem Gange. Zu Zeiten der Bürgerrechtsbewegung entstand dieses Stück, in dem trotz seiner Sprödheit eine gewisse Melancholie steckt. Ich habe mich lange mit Max über den Track unterhalten. Auch er ist ein intuitiver Typ, der sich in den verschiedenen Genres wohlfühlt. Er hat sofort den richtigen Ton getroffen", resümiert Till Brönner.

Born in 1971 in Viersen, Germany and raised in Rome, Italy, Till experienced his outset with the help of Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker: “Hearing Bebop for the first time, Charlie Parker; that set the whole thing off for me. I was 13 years old and it was an almost erotic sensation. I thought that it was indecent. The music was like a woman having a go at me.” Till stems from a family of musicians; after a well-protected childhood, he enjoyed a classical education followed by a study of the jazz trumpet at Cologne’s Music Academy. After only three semesters he convinced the leader of Berlin’s “RIAS-Tanzorchester” at an audition, taking his first hurdle at the age of 20.

Only two years later, he raised more than one eyebrow with “Generations of Jazz”, being both a classic mainstream recording and his debut as a bandleader. By the time he released “German Songs”, his third album of old German film songs, arranged for jazz quartet and classical orchestra, he was the talk of the trade.

- for his album “Rio” he wins the 2009 Echo Award in the jazz category (it is his third consecutive win in this category)
